Marguerite Guinotte was born March 19, 1882 in Neuilly, France, the daughter of Alfred and Laure (Le Hardy, 1844-1937) Guinotte. She was named for Margaret Lesley Bush-Brown (sister of Mary Lesley Ames). She arrived in St. Paul in 1907 to teach French at the Miss Loomis School. She later taught at the Northrop Collegiate School in Minneapolis before joining the University of Minnesota faculty in 1913. Her father was a writer in France.
